Conditions for attendance
We want Breakout to be a positive and safe experience for everyone. Therefore, the following conditions are in place to protect everybody attending the event. Purchasing a ticket to Breakout assumes that you will comply with these conditions, and that you will inform the young people, and their parents/ carers of these requirements to ensure their consent.
- Breakout is an alcohol and drug free event.
- Violent, inappropriate or racist conduct towards other participants or Breakout staff is unacceptable.
- Respect the property of others and understand that neither vandalism nor theft will be tolerated.
You are responsible for your belongings so be careful what you bring.
- Any item brought to the event that is considered to be inappropriate could be confiscated, e.g. potential weapons.
- This is not a place to break any laws. If necessary the police will be informed.
- You could be removed from site if it is deemed that the behaviour of an individual or group compromises the safety of others or the integrity of the event or the Methodist Church.
Multi-media images
It is possible that during this event, your child / young person below the age of 18 may be photographed or recorded (audio or visual). Methodist Children and Youth staff will take all steps to ensure that these images are used solely for the purposes that they are intended which is the celebration and promotion of the Methodist Church’s work with children and young people. (This may include live broadcast during the course of the event.)
If you become aware that these images are being used inappropriately you should inform an official as soon as possible.
If you would prefer that your child’s individual photograph / recording is not taken and used for these purposes, please advise us by writing to the Director of Children of Youth, 25 Marylebone Road, London NW1 5JR at least two weeks prior to the event.
The Methodist Church takes the issue of child safety very seriously and we believe we have a duty of care. This means that images of children and young people will remain unidentifiable, with names and identifying information being withheld. All staff, including photographers, have enhanced criminal disclosure checks.
Guidance / supervision
Throughout the weekend, responsibility for each young person rests with their youth leaders. All youth groups must have a group leader of 18 years of age, or older. Several leaders may attend the event, and we would suggest that you have at least one male and one female leader if your group is mixed, and you have a minimum of 2 leaders for a group of up to 20 people. You should aim to keep this ratio of leaders to young people if your group has more than 20 people in it. The leaders know how much responsibility they can place on the young person they are bringing. This not only applies to matters of safety but also to conduct. We do not want to interfere with the independence or freedom of young people but we need to protect all participants and maintain the high standards of the Methodist Church.
Special needs / accessibility / inclusivity
Provision is being made for those with special needs. Please ensure the relevant section of the booking form is completed in as much detail as possible. Please email bookings@breakout2010.info if you have any specific concerns.
Young people from other denominations and backgrounds are also strongly encouraged to come and experience Breakout.
Acommodation / food
- Bed in Cliff College (dormitory style)
- Camping
- Operation Friendship (basic accommodation on church hall floors, in neighbouring churches no more than 30 mins away. You will need your own transport to get to and from the site)
- Operation Friendship Plus (Cliff College lecture room floor)
You will need to bring your own tent if camping and for all other accommodation you will need your own sleeping bags, pillows, towels etc
